The Vampire of Cosium

*Before the time period of Teen's Play/Child's Play*

  In the castle of Cosium...

Queen Sapphire walked into her sitting room with a lovely blue letter in hand. She walked over to a cute side table where a single crystal bell sat on a stand. She picked up the bell and rang in softly, filling the room with a gentle ring.
Suddenly, a figure stood behind her, "You rang, your majesty?"
Sapphire turned to her visitor with a smile, "Hello, Reggie."
The figure was the royal messenger, Reggie. A grey hedgehog with red spines and blond bangs wearing a black hooded top, brown belts, finger-less gloves, and boots. His red eyes were more demonic-like than those of any person in Cosium. He smiled, revealing his short fangs, "What can I do for you, my queen?"
She smiled and handed him the letter, "I need this delivered to Atlantis. Its not too much trouble, is it?"
Reggie excepted the letter and gave a deep bow, "Its never any trouble, your highness. I am but your lowly servant and I will gladly be at your service."
She giggled, "I still wonder how it is you can go to Atlantis without being a merhog."
Reggie grinned and held a finger to his lips, "A magician never tells his secrets." With that, he started for the door, "I'll have this delivered by the end of the day."
She smiled as he left, "Thank you, Reggie."
Reggie chuckled as he headed down the hall. He was never thanked by anyone the way he was thanked by Sapphire. She was always so kind and sincere. Reggie couldn't help but like her for it. Not too many people took so kindly to him.
One of the downsides of being a vampire.
Reggie stopped at the entrance of the castle and pulled on his hood. He walked out and made bat wings grow from his back. He flapped them a bit preparing them for flight, "A quick fly over the ocean sounds pretty good right now."
Before he could fly off, he heard something with his strong vampire hearing. His ear turned in the direction it came from, "Came from the royal garden." He smirked as he made his wings disappear, "Must be the princes." He turned and headed into the royal garden.
The royal garden was very large and full of some of the most rare and unique flowers in the kingdom. Reggie was always fond of the royal garden. There was nothing beautiful like it in the forest he came from. Nothing but darkness and evil.
He soon spotted the three little princes at the center of the garden by a beautiful pedestal. On the pedestal sat the queen's prized vase, a gift she got for her anniversary from the king. At least, that's where it was supposed to be sitting. Now the pedestal was empty.
Reggie sighed. He could guess what had happened. He walked over.
Prince Shadow was holding baby prince Silver on his back as they watched prince Sonic on the ground next to a shattered mess. Shadow looked worried, "Sonic, you weren't allowed to..." He stopped when he saw Reggie.
Reggie walked up to them and surveyed the scene. There sat Sonic, holding his bleeding leg. Sonic was sniffling, upset about his leg and the shattered vase next to him. Reggie sighed, "Let me guess. Someone forgot a certain rule?"
Shadow spoke, "Sonic was running in the garden, even though he's not allowed, and now mommy's vase is broken."
Sonic wiped his eyes, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to." His eyes filled with tears.
Reggie was silent, then sighed, "Well, did you learn your lesson? When you're told not to do something, you don't do it. Your mother told you not to run in the garden because she knew you might get hurt. See what happens when you don't obey?" Sonic nodded, still crying.
Reggie sighed, "Alright then." He held out his hand and a beautiful staff appeared. He gripped the staff and his eyes began to glow. Shadow, Sonic, and little Silver watched. The three were always amazed when Reggie would use his magic.
Reggie waved his staff softly and the vase pieces started to glow. The princes watched in awe as the pieces floated into the air and started coming together to create the vase in all its beauty. They watched as the vase floated up and sat carefully back on its pedestal.
Shadow was amazed, especially when he saw Sonic's leg, "Your leg is all better."
Sonic looked and saw that he was right. The cut was gone. He stood up and smiled when it didn't hurt.
Reggie's eyes stopped glowing as he looked down at them, "There. No more breaking rules. Got it?"
Sonic nodded, "Thanks, Reggie!"
Reggie looked away, not letting himself get swept up in the warm feeling he got from the little princes smiling up at him, "Just stay out of trouble."
Sonic smiled, "Ok!" He turned to his brothers, ready to hurry off, "Come on, let's..." He stopped himself with an embarrassed smile, "Let's walk back."
Shadow chuckled, "Ok." He turned to Reggie, "Bye, Reggie." Silver even gave a cute little wave as the boys walked back towards the castle entrance.
Reggie sighed once they were out of sight, "And as for you..." He spun around, shooting magic from the jewel at the end of his staff. The magic hit the base of a nearby tree, causing someone to jump out of harm's way. They wore a long hooded cloak over their clothes. Their face was hidden in the shadow of the hood.
The figure chuckled darkly, "Nice shot."
Reggie glared, "What are you doing here? You're not welcome here."
The figure shrugged, "I thought I'd see if you were still here. I would have thought they'd kill you by now."
Reggie gripped his staff tighter, "What for? I've done nothing wrong. The royal family trusts me."
The figure smirked, "Do they? Are you sure?"
Reggie was silent. As much as he wanted to believe they trusted him entirely, he partly hoped they didn't. After all, he was a deadly vampire.
The figure chuckled, "Poor Reggie. Trying to be part of a world where he doesn't belong. One of these days, they'll realize that too. That will be your day of doom. They will destroy you as they all destroy the rest of your kind."
Reggie thumped the end of his staff against the ground, "Shut up! They brought their own end. I won't make the same mistakes."
The figure laughed coldly, "So they all said before they were destroyed one by one. You'll be no different." He turned with a smirk, "I'll give it no more than a year. You'll regret every laying eyes on this family. They will bring your end." With that, the figure disappeared.
Reggie let his staff disappear as he thought to himself. The royal family had been very kind to him since he arrived, helping him make a life for himself in the kingdom. Darren continued to keep the spell that protected Reggie from sunlight going, Sapphire continued to encourage people to get along with Reggie, and Kaze put his utmost trust in Reggie, seeing as he was allowing a vampire be near his loved ones. And the princes didn't even think about Reggie being a vampire. To them, he was just another person. That alone made Reggie feel comfortable around them. He trusted them.
He looked at the letter he still hand. He let his wings appear and flew off. He could only hope he was right to put his trust in them. After all, all vampires believed that trust was a death wish. To trust someone was to make yourself entirely vulnerable. Reggie hoped he hadn't made the number one mistake of a vampire.
Then he remembered the princes' smiles. He smiled at the memory.
No. There was no mistake.
With that, he flew off over the ocean.

THE END
I had this little story running through my mind for months now as I continued to read :imageLiyuConberma: 's comics and tales and I just had to write it down. So, after I finished and asked permission, I finally posted it. I'm pretty proud of it, even if its really, really short. Normally I don't write short stories. They're hard for a novelist like me. BUT I managed to make it work here. =)

I'm really just introducing my fan chara for :imageLiyuConberma:'s storys "Teen's Play", "Child's Play", and "Tales of Origin". Reggie is a character from my own stories who I thought would fit right into :imageLiyuConberma: 's world. They are great stories with incredible art, so I hope you'll go check them out! =D
