Adventure Log 2 : The Mystery Begins

After Weavile defeated those pokemon by the spring, Lin, Wartortle, and I managed to carry him back to the Village of EverGreen Falls. Just who were those pokemon and why were they after Wartortle? What stones does he have that they keep mentioning? Something mysterious was going on, and I was going to find out what.

I looked into the room where Weavile was sleeping, "I hope he'll be ok."
I turned back to the others. We were in the home of a female WEAVILE named Slash, who was friends with Lin. Apparently, Lin usually stayed with her. Slash was a lovely, powerful WEAVILE with a blue symbol on her forehead and eyes like amythests.
She was finishing up with taking care of Wartortle's injuries while Weavile slept in her bed in the next room. She sighed as she sat a bowl of Oran Berries on the wooden table, "Well, that should do it. Eat some Oran Berries and you'll be back to normal in no time."
Wartortle sighed, "Thanks." He grabbed an Oran Berry and popped it into his mouth.
I walked back over, "Now that things have calmed down, could you tell me what's going on, Wartortle? Why are pokemon after you? What is all this talk about stones?"
Wartortle sighed, "Well, you guys did help me out, including last night with Vordus. I just realized that's what I remember you from. You're the CHESPIN that got me out of trouble."
I smirked, "Who did you think I was?"
He grinned, "I knew you were familiar, but I thought you were another pokemon I narrowly escaped before."
Lin smiled, "So it was you that brought Chestnut to the beach?"
Wartortle nodded, "Yeah. It was the least I could do. Couldn't risk swimming back to the shore on that side because Vordus was still hanging around looking for me. And seeing as I couldn't help him when Vordus attacked him, I had to repay him somehow."
I understood, "Because of your Pokia. That's why you didn't help; it was because you couldn't."
Wartortle leaned back in the straw he sat in, "You got it."
Lin tapped her chin curiously, "But why were those pokemon after you? What did they want?" Wartortle was silent a moment as he thought about it.
Before he could answer, Weavile walked in. I smiled, "Hey. How are you feeling?"
Weavile, still looking pretty beat up, sighed, "Fine." He glanced at Wartortle, "Thanks for the tips earlier. I'm not used to fighting that way. Usually I have an advantage over my opponents, so its never gotten that closely matched before."
Wartortle waved it off, "It was nothing. Just some stuff my... my dad... used to tell me." Wartortle looked a little sad. I noticed his hesitance to say the word "dad", and I had a feeling I knew why.
Then Slash walked over, "Feeling better, tough guy?"
Weavile saw her and surprised me by blushing. He cleared his throat, "Uh, good afternoon, Slash."
Slash smirked, "Still crushing on me? I'm impressed. Most guys would have gotten over it by now, especially after being out of town so much." Weavile blushed deeper. Wartortle and I chuckled.
Weavile took a deep breath, "Thank you for fixing me up. I appreciate it."
To Weavile's surprised, Slash kissed his cheek. She smiled as he tensed, wide-eyed, and went pink in the face, "Try not to stay out of trouble, ok? I don't enjoy seeing you get hurt."
Weavile sighed with a love-struck smile, "I'll do that." He was clearly crazy about her, which I thought was really nice to see. Even better, she seemed to like him too, even if she had more control and composure with her feelings.
Lin smiled, "Thank you for helping us with those pokemon, Weavile. I don't think we could have beat them all ourselves."
He looked her over and smirked, "I highly doubt that. You certainly didn't look like you had any trouble with that SWALOT."
She blushed, "Oh that? That was nothing special."
Weavile spoke, "You should be more confident in your abilities. You may find you have a lot more potential than you think."
I smiled, "I agree with Weavile. I bet you'll blow everyone away one day!"
She blushed deeper and looked at the floor, "M-maybe. If you really think so."
Wartortle sighed, "I guess I should explain what exactly happened earlier today, and last night."
Weavile walked over, "Yes, I'm curious about that."
Lin nodded, "Just what did those pokemon want from you? What stones?"
Wartortle pulled his arm into his shell, "This." He brought it out and sat something on the table. It was a glass orb with colors streaked through it.
Slash and Weavile gasped in shock, "A Mega Stone!"
Lin was surprised, "A Mega Stone? I thought those there just a myth!"
I was lost, "Uh, what's a Mega Stone?"
Lin explained, "Its said that some pokemon species have a lot of powerful potential, some so much that its still hidden inside even after fully evolving. Its said that Mega Stones can unlock that hidden potential, making them evolve even further. It makes them incredibly powerful, but I had believed they were a myth."
I was amazed, "And this is one of those stones?"
Wartortle nodded, "This one is called Lucarionite. With it, a Lucario could Mega Evolve into Mega Lucario, making them incredibly powerful."
I looked it over, "Wow."
Weavile spoke, still quite surprised, "How did you manage to get your hands on one of these?"
Wartortle smirked, "Not just one." He reached into his shell with both arms and brought out a bunch of them. This shocked Weavile and Slash to total silence. Lin and I looked over them all. They each had a special assortment of colors per orb, defining which was which. I spoke, "Just how many of these stones are there?"
He sighed and he motioned over them all, "This is it. These are all the Mega Stones in the world. At least, all that are known to exist."
Slash finally managed to speak, "Incredible. No wonder everyone wants to get ther hands on you. You have all the Mega Stones."
Weavile shook his head in shock, "How did you get them?"
Wartortle sighed, "My dad had them. He passed a couple days ago."
I understood how he felt, "I'm sorry to hear that."
He took a deep breath, "Its fine. You see, my dad was old friends with one of the original holders of one of the stones. That friend had decided the stones had to be kept somewhere safe, where no one would find them. He chose my dad to protect them, since he was the most powerful water-type in the entire lake."
Lin smiled, "The great and mighty Blastoise was your dad?" Wartortle nodded. She tapped her chin, "And he passed away? That's so sad. I hadn't even heard about it."
Wartortle sighed, "Yeah, well, in the end, the stones are left to my care."
Weavile looked curious, "But then how did those pokemon find out you had them?"
Wartortle shrugged, "Honestly, I think they always knew. There are a few pokemon who know all about my dad having them. Only thing that kept them at bay all this time was my dad. Like Lin said, my dad was one of the strongest. None of them would dare take him on. But now that my dad is gone..."
Slash understood, "..there's nothing to stop them. The stones are free for the taking."
Wartortle sighed, "And with a pokemon with pokia protecting them? Its an all out free for all." He looked determined, "Which is why I decided the only way to keep the stones safe is to return them to their rightful holders."
I was surprised, "Return them? You mean to the pokemon that had them before our dad started protecting them?"
Wartortle nodded, "If anyone can protect them best, its the ones who originally owned them. I think my dad would have wanted that. Obviously I can't protect them, and I know my dad would never forgive himself if he knew his duty fell on my shoulders and put me in so much danger."
Lin tapped her chin as she thought, "Why not just hide them?"
Wartortle looked at her, "Hide them where? There's nowhere to hide them, especially seeing as all those pokemon are after me. There's nowhere safe enough to hide these. I mean, take today for example. Weavile easily sensed the stones earlier today. If a pokemon just happened along wherever I hid them, they'll easily find them."
Slash sighed, "He does have a point. They need guarded by pokemon we can trust will protect them no matter what."
Wartortle nodded, "And what if I did manage to hide them all perfectly? What happens if a day comes when they're all needed again? How will anyone find them?"
I was surprised, "If they're all needed? Again? What do you mean?"
Wartortle looked thoughtful, "Years ago, before any of us were even eggs, there was a powerful pokemon who threatened the safety of the world. It was then the stones revealed themselves to a chosen few who could use them. Each of them used their stone to unlock their hidden potential and defeat the pokemon."
Weavile was quite surprised, "I'd never heard this tale. How do you know it so well?"
Wartortle smiled, "My dad, only a WARTORTLE at the time, had seen it himself, so he told me all about it." He cleared his throat, the memory of his dad getting to him a little.
He sighed and continued, "Once the threat was defeated, the chosen pokemon kept their stones, even as others began to want them. Years later, when the stones became sought out by dangerous new threats, my dad's friend decided my dad should hold onto the stones. Ever since, my dad kept the stones safe, knowing that one day they'd be needed again."
I was amazed. So the stones had been used to save the world? I began to wish I could have seen it, just like Wartortle's dad. I knew it would have been incredible.
Weavile crossed his arms, "But how will you find the holders? They could be anywhere!"
Wartortle smiled, "I was with my dad when he went to each pokemon and collected their stones. We traveled everywhere, and I still remember each place and each pokemon. Finding them is the easy part. Its dealing with my new buddies that's giving me trouble."
Lin cocked her head curiously, "And you remember all the holders?"
Wartortle nodded and picked up one of the stones with a thoughtful look, "Mostly. All but one. This one. This is the only one without a holder. You see, my dad's friend was the holder of this one. This one is the Blastoisite. That BLASTOISE had passed away some time ago, so it was passed down to my dad."
He ran his hand over the stone softly, "My dad never did get to use it. He used to say that one day it would be mine and that I would someday use it to protect those in need."
He looked a little sad as he looked at the stone in his hands, "I don't think that will ever happen though. With my pokia, I could never use it. I can't even protect anyone now." He took a deep breath and smiled, which was a bit of a surprise to the rest of us, "So, I decided one day I'd pass it on to a pokemon I know can use it. A pokemon I know will carry out my dad's dream that one day this stone will protect others and maybe even save the world once again."
I smiled at Wartortle's confidence. Though he himself could never use it, he was determined to find a pokemon who could. He was willing to pass on that great destiny to someone else, even after his dad believed it would be his.
At that moment, I found myself admiring Wartortle. He was the kind of pokemon I wished to be one day. A pokemon who believed in himself and did his absolute best, even when the odds were against him. At that point, he had taken on a duty that had very high odds stacked against him because of his pokia, but he was determined to see it to the end.
Wartortle smiled, "I'm sure my dad would understand and trust in my decision, even if its turning out to be even harder than I originally thought."
I immediately stood up, "Than I'll help you!" Everyone looked at me. I smiled, "Wartortle, I'm gonna help you get those stones to their holders!"
Wartortle blinked at me, "You're... gonna help me?"
I nodded, "Of course! I am going to be a Rescue Team leader, meaning its my duty to help pokemon in need! And Lin just joined me, so we'll work together!"
Lin smiled, "Yeah. I'm in!"
Wartortle looked at Lin and me, then smirked, "Are you sure? It's a pretty big quest to take on."
I smiled, "Well, Lin and I were already planning to travel the work to help pokemon anyhow! What better reason than to help you return those stones to where they belong? Its our kind of quest, right Lin?"
Lin nodded, "Yeah! Let's do it!"
Weavile looked a little worried, "Are you sure you're up to that?"
Lin smiled at him, "Well, you did say we should be confident in our abilities, Weavile."
He was about to speak, but stopped and smirked, "I did say that, didn't I?"
Slash nudged him playfully, "Indeed you did." She turned to us with a grin, "I say go for it. If any pokemon can do it, its you all. No one could be more determined to succeed, and that alone will take you far."
She turned to Weavile, "You should go with them, tough guy."
Weavile was surprised, "Me?"
I smiled, "Yeah! You're really strong, as you clearly proved earlier."
Weavile sighed, "Yeah, but I kinda have a mission of my own to get back to. I'm already far behind."
Lin remembered at the same moment I did, "The one in Watchfull Hollow, right? We saw you check the map for it this morning."
Weavile nodded, "That's the one. I was headed there when I sensed Wartortle with the stones. I should have been halfway there by now. A young EEVEE went missing and I was sent to go find her."
Slash smirked, "That makes this even better. You can go with these three up to that point."
Lin smiled, "Oh please, Weavile?" Weavile thought about it.
I grinned, "And if we go together, we can help you find that EEVEE. Maybe our help will make up for your lost time."
He looked over us, then sighed, "Alright. I guess we could make this work."
Lin giggled, "Yay!"
Slash smiled and walked over to her wooden cabinet, "Well, that settles that. Let me pack you guys a supply pack and you can be on your way." She started packing a brown rucksack with supplies as she continued, "You should be able to reach Majestic Glade before nightfall. Stay with them overnight and you can be in Watchful Hollow by noon tomorrow. I'm sure Sky won't mind having some guests."
I accepted a bag, "Thanks, Slash. Its best we stop by Majestic Glade anyhow."
Lin understood, "Oh yeah, the Rescue Team badges."
Wartortle looked curious, "Badges?"
I chuckled, "I kinda lost them when that TENTACRUEL sent me sinking last night."
Wartortle looked surprised, then reached into his shell. He brought out a small object, "Is that was this was?"
I laughed when I saw the crushed Rescue Team badge, "Yeah, that would be it. Well, one of them."
He sighed with a smile as he picked up all the stones and put them back in his shell, "Yeah, I went to get your bag, but nothing could be salvaged, especially after other pokemon found it first. I guess it got smashed when a couple of the pokemon started fighting over some of the stuff in there." He pulled out something, "Oh! I did manage to get this too." He handed me another small object.
I gasped, "My mom's locket?" I immediately realized I didn't see her wearing it when I left home. I opened it to see the picture inside wasn't damaged. It was a picture of my mom and dad holding me. A happy little family.
I smiled, "She must have slipped it into my bag before I left. She always believed keepsakes brought good luck." I pulled it on over my head, letting it hang around my neck. I smiled at Wartortle, "Thanks, Wartortle."
He scratched behind his head with a grin, "I forgot I even had it. I didn't open it while I was underwater cause I didn't want to ruin the picture, so when I put it away, I forgot all about it. Only reason I even kept the badge was cause I thought it was a special rock."
Weavile accepted a second bag from Slash, "Then we'll head to Majestic Glade and get you three new ones. The Village Leader shouldn't mind letting us stay there too. Then in the morning, we'll head straight to Watchful Hollow."
Slash kissed his cheek, making him tense up and blush, "Be careful out there, handsome."
Weavile went into love-struck mode again, "Sure." Lin and I took his hands and pulled him along with grins.
I waved to Slash as we left her house, "See ya, Slash! Thanks again!"
She waved back as she leaned in the doorway with a smile, "Good luck." She blew a kiss to Weavile, "Get back home soon, Weavile."
He grinned his love-sick grin, "Ok." And so, we were on our way.
